Enhance and check your tango library with data from El Recodo Tango Music
What is TangoLink?
TangoLink is a software and a powerful service for tango lovers and DJs. Once installed on your computer, you can directly use the data available on El Recodo Tango Music to automatically rename and/or tags your audio files. Your tango collection becomes clean with accurate, reliable, and consistent metadata. It is also very useful to improve or double check your collection if you already put the right titles, dates and orchestra names on your files.
Based on a powerful audio identification, the process is easy and saves a lot of time.
When there is a corrections or an improvement on the discography (usually thanks to El Recodo Tango international community), you get informed and keep your high quality collection up to date.
As a DJ or tango lover, you probably need a specific structure for your file names and tags. No worry, this is fully customizable and easy to configure thanks to several previews. However if you are not sure, there are default presets available which work in most cases.
By using TangoLink you also benefit from an advanced experience when exploring discographies on El Recodo Tango Music, when using the Tanda Builder or performing advanced searches.

To use TangoLink, register and get a TangoDJ account which includes all the features available on El Recodo Tango, plus 300 credits/year, which are enough for a regular use of TangoLink. If you need more, no worry you can add credits as you go. Just as a reference if you are starting, consider less than 2000 credits to manage a collection of ~4000 "useful recordings". You may also already have credits on your account from your old contributor access.
- Tangolink spends:
- 1 credit per successful audio identification.
- 0.25 credit only per contributory identification or update of already TangoLinked files.
The project
TangoLink is the result of many years of work in several fields, in particular El Recodo Tango Music data source and audio recognition. Although TangoLink already relies on a database of several billion entries, it is a long-term contributory project. By using it, you contribute to its improvement.
Several people made this project possible, in particular Ahmed Alami (algorithms, architecture, TangoLink software), Julien Libeau (algorithms, servers), Gregory Diaz (concept, audio learning, API, databases), and all the contributors.
Questions / Answers
.mp3 .m4a .flac .aif .wav files are supported. Note that the wave format is not compatible itself with id3 tags so metadata can't be added to them.
Although both services are based on the same database, TangoLink audio identification is even faster and more reliable than the El Recodo Tango App.
No, it is recommended that you work on a copy of your collection or have a backup.

Hello, I've just started to use TangoLInk on Mac M2 Sonoma. Every song I tried to Tangolink shows error and no tag is changed. I use external SD card, not Apple Music. What can I do?

Better use your internal disk rather that SD cards.
If the issue is still present, double check that ffmpeg file was well installed in C:\Users\ your name \.tangolink\bin It may not be the case if you securities geopardized tangolink installation. I also send you here the ffmpeg file to place in the bin folder: so we are sure it is not corrupted by any security setting.

Greg, I have quite a bit of work to do to update my collection to take advantage of recent improvements in the metadata. The e-mail you sent me identifies the firsts few tracks with the ERT number. However, when I click the link to see the full list the ERT isn't clearly shown. Is there any way to get a list of the tracks that need attention by ERT number please? I can't see a facility for me to arrange that myself.

Of couse! You may not see the page until you log in with your account. Once logged, click on your name (or user icon) in the top menu bar, then click on 'TangoLink Updates'.

Hello, Gregory! I've just tried Tangolink on mp3 file. It worked great. But all my tango music in Apple Music and files have type-protected audio... How can I use Tangolink in my case? Thank you !

What happens when you try to tangolink one of those?
I don't know the details of this protection (Apple does) but I would recommend working and spending time on audio files you purchased/own and can play on any device.

By subscribing to TangoDJ, I get 300 credits for Tangolink. What does this mean? That I may convert 300 files? I tried to Tangolink free trial, but after transferring a first Playlist, it already did not work any more (no more credits).
300 links from my Apple Mac Music library into the ElRecodo format would just mean 5 percent of my library. Does it cost to get more credits? Thanks for suggestions Ralf

Dear Gregory, thank you for answering so quickly. No, I did not get your message. My spam is emptied every 24 h, so it is not possible to check what happened last week. I am sorry. But the Email provided in my account is correct. To return to your answer to my question. Yes, i understand that I can buy credits. So, in addition to the 300 Credits I get for subscribing for a year, I will need to buy 5,000 credits to organize my whole library. This is significant and, as far as I understand, costs EUR 200. Ok, understood, other choices than buying credits I did not find. The software itself (once I understood how to fool the Mac firewall) is working very nicely, thank you for the excellent work.

Hi Ralf, thx for your feedback. Other ways to get credits are the quiz and lyrics annotations, and sponsorship, however none of these will get you to such amounts of credits as audio identifications requires several expensive severs to work for you. Hola Gregory, siempre he utilizado el mismo software para editar los TAGS (TagScanner) pero a partir de windows 10, por lo menos en España, cuando actualizaba un tag automáticamente este volvía a la información anterior, y es allí donde me enteré que por cuestiones de derechos de autor windows 10 no permitía modificar tags

Request: once TangoLink encounters an error, would be useful to display the file/song name where the error occurred. (rather than the user should go through a list of (many) songs to find the problem.

Après avoir passé de nombreuses heures, j'ai enfin la plus belle des bibliothèques musicales. J'avais perdu toutes mes musiques et j'ai tout refait.... merci Gregory par le majestueux site EL-RECODO. C'est une mine d'or, tu peux en être fier. Ma bibliothèque musicale n'a jamais été si 'propre', tout est super bien classé avec TANGOLINK. J'adore ton site, je suis très admirative de tout ce qu'on y retrouve. Enfin, maintenant c'est les vacances, mais je pars avec une tendinite (tellement j'ai fais des clics pour renommer la musique) et les yeux bien fatigués, mais je suis heureuse de mon travail ! Bonjour, Je viens de casser mon mac et malheureusement toute ma bibliothèque musicale est perdue (eh oui, je n'avais pas fais de sauvegarde et quand j'ai voulu le faire... c'était trop tard). Je vais passer dorénavant à Windows et Linus. J'aimerais savoir si j'ai deux pc différents est-ce que je dois payer deux abonnements chez vous ? Concernant l'abonnement, un seul est nécessaire même si TangoLink est installé sur tout tes ordinateurs. Utilise TangoLink sur un seul poste à la fois pas contre, puis copie les titres reconnus sur tes autres PC ou disques de sorte d'avoir suffisamment de sauvegardes. N'hésites pas si tu as d'autres questions.

I have tried loading Tangolink and I get this message: “TangoLink” can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software. This software needs to be updated. Contact the developer for more information. I have an iMac using macOS Monterey 12.1

I have been discovering/using Tango Link for MacOs ( using catalina and Apple Musique) during the last days, at the beginning some strange things happened, but I understand now that it was totally due to Apple Music and the fact I did not completely understand the architecture of Apple Music, now I understand it and also, the way TangoLink and Apple Music interact with each other, it is fabulous.
To TangoLink 20 songs of one Album , it takes between 5 to 8 minutes
on some batches for the 20 songs, the system is asking me for 2 or 3, titles the ERT Number of the Tango.
Having the page of el-Recodo opened, not only I can find the ERT Nr, but in case there are two recordings from different years of the same song from the same Orchestra, I can identify the correct recording, listening my file and the extract from El-Recodo.
It is a Wonderfull application, The El-Recodo team did a fabulous job.
The combination with the database and TangoLink is an incredible step...

Highly recommended application for every Tango Dj, or any one with a large Tango library that wishes to update it with the correct information and organize it in an orderly manner. A big applaud to all the developers who made this project happen.

Je n’en pouvais plus de chercher les dates d’enregistrements et de renommer/'tagger' à la main mes morceaux de tango. Bref, TangoLink c’est l’application que j’attendais pour mettre de l’ordre automatiquement dans ma collection de morceaux. Pour info, elle donne aussi de meilleurs résultats que les applications de type shazam car elle n’est pas perturbée par le bruit d’environnement de votre pièce.
Si vous avez une belle collection de tango et que vous voulez y mettre de l’ordre, je ne peux que vous conseiller de l’utiliser .
